Its Time To Reveal Your Inner Rebel!

What does a new year bring? Yeah you guessed it, new make-up trends.

This winter its all about goth-glam chic! It was a huge hit on the catwalks and now its time to put it into your pretty little make-up bags. When thinking about gothic make-up, think Morticia Addams from The Addams family but with a more feminine take than its predecessor. Ok I admit, this might be filling you with horror, but rest assured that this trend will not make you look like a 90s throwback and instead you will look like a sultry kitten.

Celebrities such as Khloe Kardashian, Emma Stone and Nicole Scherzinger have all been sporting the new look, from pale skin to dark lips. And no matter what age you are or what skin tone you may have - this look will suit you! My biggest tip for all of you out there, is choosing the right products for you! So, if you suit bright red lips, embrace that. If you suit smokey eyes, go for it and darken it up. Beauty is about enhancing your features and making the most of what you have, its not about covering it up. Do not be scared to try new products and experiment, and as I always say ‘practice makes perfect'. If you do not like your new look, you can simply wash it off - that's what makes make-up so fun.

However, as one would imagine goth-glam is full on, but that doesn’t necessarily mean scary – instead its about embracing beautiful dark colours and using them in a modern glamorous way. This look is most certainly eye-catching and ultra-dramatic, but also flattering if done in the right way. Which is why I am going to share with you some insider tips and tricks to get you looking every bit the party princess (even if you are just going shopping). Ladies, its time to reveal your inner rebel!

Follow my tips below to reveal a gorgeous new you...

Face it
For make-up I recommend avoiding fake tan, as this look is all about your natural skin-tone. Super pale skin completes the trend and celebrities such as Nicola Roberts love the crisp look that pale skin brings.
Top tip:
Do not go overboard, as you will be having intense eyes and lips - so it is important to keep your foundation minimal. If you suffer with spots, be sure to use a heavy duty concealer to hide away any unwanted blemishes.

For eyeshadow I recommend using a bronzy neutral shade over your lids and working a dark brown into the crease, as this will help create dimension and definition - making them appear brighter and more lifted. If you do not like browns, why not try greys, blues and blacks for sexy smouldering eyes.
Top tip: Always use an eye primer, as it will not only make your eyeshadows bulletproof and last all day, but it will also help the colours pop.

Next apply some gorgeous fluttery eyelashes – as no matter what eye shape you have, there is lashes to suit you. For a more subtle look, cut your falsies in half and apply them to the outer corners.
Top tip: I recommend applying your eyelashes with tweezers to help you put them as close to the root as possible. Also before applying, remember to check that the lashes are the right length for you. If you find that they are too long, give them a trim from the outside corners, as this will help keep your falsies in the right shape.

Finally for lips, try and opt for classic reds or dark cherry tones. It is important to always remember to pick a shade that suits your colouring. Below are some tips to help you find your perfect lipstick shade…
Fair skin: Look for reds that add warmth to paler skin.
Olive skin: Opt for bright lipsticks which will bring out your skins golden undertones.
Dark skin: Mulberry lipsticks will look fabulous, as intense colours compliment darker skin tones.
Top tip: If you want your lipstick to appear matte, lightly dust some translucent powder over your pout to help lock in the colour and give it a more intense and long-lasting finish.

In a rush and don’t have time to do full make-up? Then just remember to do the three E’s – Eyebrows, Eyeliner and Eyelashes – these quick steps will help frame your eyes and make you look fresh and pretty. Also girls, if you have a couple of extra minutes throw in some Eyeshadow too – (EYE WON’T TELL IF YOU DON’T!)

Nail it
For a fierce everyday glam look, you can nail this seasons style using a black opaque nail varnish. Or you could be bold and show your confidence through a classic red nail polish – both will be sure to get you in the goth-glam spirit.
Top tip: Firstly file your nails and then apply a base coat, as this will help protect your talons and stop any staining. Make sure your nails are completely dry before applying your pretty polish and for best results, apply at least two thin coats. To keep your manicure looking salon perfect all week, apply a top coat to help seal the varnish in place.

Rock it
Finally, now that you have your make-up and beauty sorted, invest in a little black dress, some studded high heels and funk it up with some statement jewellery to look like a beautiful dramatic diva.
Top tip: Be sure to wear sequins, sparkles and spikes for the latest on trend style - which will see you through all season.
